I recently heard so many claims that millennial employees are either the worst or best employees. Within this article, I would tell how and what it takes to be a successful millennials.
As a millennial itself, of all the comments and questions I’ve received from people over the past few days, the most common has to do with the traits that the top performing Millennial workers demonstrate consistently.
But the thing is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. During 3 years of my working experience, I’ve experienced the working environment in big corporations and Start-up Company.
However, I’ve found that young workers who demonstrate positive attitude and work hard traits tend to encounter consistent success in the workplace. Here is my experience.
Remember when you were young, you got asked: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I usually answered with the jobs I thought were cool, yet sometimes this is a mainstream answer to under 10 years old girl such as doctor, astronaut, pilot, and even a stewardess.
Be a Successful Millennials
But, as I grew up, I began to base my aspirations on what interested me moreover when I didn’t get into the university major I really want to, not on what sounded cool. My focus shifted to understanding my interest on the specific issue and then figuring out how to make a living while pursuing them.
As time goes by, I knew that I wanted a career that combined a variety of my passions: travelling, helping companies grow, connect with more people, digital marketing, and arts. Of course, I didn’t start out working in all of those areas.
So during my career I actively sought out opportunities to build my skillsets so I could better pursue the things I love. That led me to where I am today—a content manager. I have to say, having a wide range of experiences under my career belt serves me well each day.
As I think of the people I work with, I realize passion and purpose has become an integral part of finding satisfaction at work. Although some people are discovering it is more important to do work that fulfills a passion as opposed to separating their daily work lives from doing what they love. Here are some tips that’ll help you do what you love:
First, figure out what you enjoy doing the most. Otherwise, find a specific issues you deeply care about then solve the problem. This energizes you more than you think.
Secondly, when you’ve found what interest you, work hard is the next absolute mantra if you want to be successful. There is no shortcut to success.
Third, be curious. Always. Open your mind to something new. It broaden your horizons and may help you discover a passion you didn’t know before.
Don’t be afraid to make a change and mistakes. Sometimes you realize the path you are on doesn’t feel right. Give yourself the room to breathe and explore new things. It will make you happier and ultimately a better person for it.
Last but not least, stay in your own grass and never mind other people’s life especially of you find it out from social media. Don’t worry if others don’t understand why you are doing what you are doing. There is only one person it needs to make sense to: you. No one knows your heart better than you.
Looking back, I would give myself the same advice offered by the late Steve Jobs, Apple founder: “
The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking, do not settle. As with all matters of the heart, you will know when you find it.”
Last note, as a successful millennials in this era, you should be a digital native. Take technology in every single work. Especially if you work as HR manager, you can use Talenta to help you manage employee.
